Grace Community Church was launched in March 1991 as part of the Decade of Harvest initiative with Dr. Duane Weis as its founding pastor. The very first services were held at Marcus High School, and then later moved to Lamar Middle School. After two years at Lamar, the congregation moved to a rental building in Lewisville. In November of 1992, seeing the future need for space, the current church property was purchased at 2525 Forest Vista Drive. Dr. Richard and Ladonna Plunk were appointed as senior pastors in August 1995. Later that year, the church moved from their rented location to Timber Creek Elementary School, moving in and out each weekend.
On Christmas Eve 1998, Grace celebrated its first worship service in their new 10,000 square foot facility. A formal dedication was held for this worship center on January 10, 1999. Soon after, Grace went from one to two Sunday worship services to accommodate the ever-growing population. In 2000, a new 8,300 square foot educational wing including 10 classrooms, offices, and reception hall was added. During this construction phase the worship hall was also enlarged to accommodate growth. To this day Grace continues to grow both numerically and spiritually as even now new expansion plans are underway. Amidst change and growth, the Lord’s faithfulness has led this church for almost 20 years and will continue to lead it into the future.
